《到灯塔去》是英国现代文学史上重要的女作家弗吉尼亚·伍尔夫的作品，作者对人物的观察细致入微，细腻地刻画出人物的内心活动、微妙的心理变化，表现了人们对精神世界的追求。本文通过对主人公的生存需要、精神需要、人生价值方面的分析，探讨伍尔夫给读者带来的精神追求对人生意义的启发。

Abstract:

To the lighthouse is one of the British woman writer's important works in the history of modern literature. In the novel, she made keen observations to the characters and depicted the inner life and subtle psychological changes of the characters. Her main  purpose is to express people's pursuit of the spiritual world. Through the analysis of the protagonist's survival needs, spiritual needs and the values of life, the writer of this thesis will study how Virginia Woolf brought readers the inspiration to pursue more insights of the meaning of life.

1. Introduction
    Since the standards of living are higher and higher, common people’s basic needs are satisfied. They are no longer worried about the material needs, such as food, clothing, shelter; they begin to pursue spiritual satisfaction. Spiritual needs are fundamental needs for the survival and development of man, which runs through the human's social activities and the process of historical development and has become an integral part of human life. According to Maslow’s theory of hierarchical needs, after human beings’ basic needs getting satisfied, they will develop a higher level, which becomes the pursuit of higher level becomes the inner power of action. The higher level needs including security needs, emotional needs, esteem needs and self-actualization needs. In recent years, with the effective promotion of modernization and the rapid progress and great achievements of the social economy, people's material living standards has also been greatly improved. At the same time, people's spiritual needs also grow and keep pace with the times, besides, the position and role of the pursuit of spiritual needs in the social life is becoming more and more important. For an individual, the spiritual needs are very important to human beings’ development, which has connotation and significance to the essence of humans.
With the material needs constantly enriched and satisfied, the spiritual needs of people face various problems at the same time, such as spiritual nothingness, the prevalence of consumerism, the proliferation of vulgar culture, which cause the spiritual barrenness and spiritual emptiness of some people. And it even leads to the lack and confusion of people's spiritual needs and the lost of human subjectivity and the meaning of life, which risk of being the dangerous edges of spiritual crisis. In this thesis, the writer will discuss people's spiritual needs and the inspiration to pursue more insights of the meaning of life through the analysis of the protagonist’s survival needs, spiritual needs and the values of life.
