摘要:
查尔斯·狄更斯是英国维多利亚时期的著名小说家,创作了许多脍炙人口的作品,而且在他的作品中也不乏对女性形象的各种描写。本论文将运用例证对比的方法来分析狄更斯笔下的不同的女性形象。这些女性形象可以分为正面女性形象和反面女性形象。正面的女性形象是当时时代要求下的产物,她们的形象完全符合“家庭天使”形象的要求和标准。反面的女性形象则是相反于“家庭天使”的女性,她们外表丑陋,内心邪恶,行为粗鲁,语言犀利,是狄更斯内心标准女性形象的反面代表。通过这些对比,本论文将分析挖掘出影响狄更斯创作这两种截然相反女性形象的内外因素,从而反映出狄更斯对于真善美的追求和向往。

Abstract:
Charles Dickens was an outstanding novelist in Victorian Era, creating many popular works, and in his works there were many female image descriptions. Through examples and comparison, this thesis aims to analyze the different female images created by Dickens. These female images were either positive or negative. The positive female images were the production of the times; their images were in conformity with the requirements and standards of “the Angel in the House”. The negative images of women were opposite to “the Angel in the House”. They looked ugly, with vicious heart, rude behaviors and sharp languages. The negative female images were the opposite representatives of the Dickens’ inner standards for the females. Through comparing the examples from Dickens’ works, this thesis will excavate the influencing factors on Dickens’ creation of these two diametrically opposite female images. From all the analysis, we can see the evidences of Dickens’ pursuit for truth, goodness and beauty.

1. Introduction
1.1 Charles Dickens
Charles Dickens (1812--1870) was an outstanding English writer. He had created the world’s best-known fictional characters and was treated as the most remarkable novelist of the Victorian era. His novels and short stories enjoyed lasting popularity(Chesterton, 2005). His main works were A Tale of Two Cities, Great Expectations, David Copperfield, Bleak House and so on.
Charles Dickens was born in 1812. When he was eleven years old, he had to undertake heavily housework. Forced to work as child laborers in the factory. After the age of fifteen, he worked as a law firm, and the court clerk’s apprentice. At his age of twenty, he became reporter of a newspaper and reported the news about the House of Commons. At his age of twenty-four, he published his serial novel — Pickwick Papers which got great popularity.
