摘要：

司各特是英国文学浪漫主义时期著名的历史小说家，因其对西方历史小说的突出贡献而被誉为“历史小说之父”。强烈的英雄主义和骑士精神成为他典型的写作风格，其著作《艾凡赫》是能够体现骑士精神最成功的作品之一。《艾凡赫》这部作品以英格兰撒克逊贵族的衰败和诺曼征服为背景，通过塑造各个阶层的代表人物，真实地再现诺曼王朝统治下的阶级斗争、民族斗争以及当时历史发展的必然趋势。本文旨在从骑士精神的内涵——谦逊宽容，英勇牺牲，同情弱者和妇女，坚持正义几个方面，通过对小说主要故事情节、人物形象以及历史背景分析，解读作品《艾凡赫》中的骑士精神,揭示骑士精神在英国文学史和欧洲社会发展中的不可磨灭的作用。

Abstract:

Scott is a famous historical novelist in British literature romantic era and he is known as “Father of Historical Novels" for his significant contribution to western historical fiction. Strong Heroism and Chivalry become his typical writing style and his masterpiece Ivanhoe is one of the most successful works that can reflect Chivalry. The work Ivanhoe takes Anglo-Saxon nobleman's decline and Norman Conquest in the late 12th century of England as background, truly reflecting the class struggle, national struggle of England and inexorable trend of historical development under the control of Norman conquerors by shaping the representative figures of all classes. This thesis aims at analyzing Chivalry features in Scott’s Ivanhoe from the connotation of Chivalry, such as, valor and sacrifice, humility and tolerance, sympathy for the weak and women, justice, through analyzing main plots, characters and historical background of the novel, revealing to people that Chivalry plays an indelible role in the development of British literature and European society.
