Abstract
Stephanie Meyer is acclaimed as a wonderful writer with a fascinating and original mind. One of her best-known works Twilight is intellectually incisive and full of original insights. Scholars at home and abroad have mainly focused on romanticism reflected in the text, but ignore the protagonist’s self breakthrough process. Therefore, this thesis analyzes the Twilight from Freud’s personality theory. Firstly, it gives a brief introduction of Stephanie Meyer and Twilight. Then from the perspective of the Freud's personality theory, it analyzes the vampires’ id, ego, superego, revealing the conflicts between the protagonist’s twisted inner world and social environment. Freud's personality theory discloses the deep meaning of the novel. Thus, the personality reading enhances the novel’s readability and profundity, and helps us to understand the reasons why the novel has become a classic.
