Abstract
This thesis analyzes Coetzee’s novel Disgrace from a post-colonial perspective. The story describes the life of Professor Lurie and his daughter Lucy in the new South Africa, which indicates the chaos of the society and the embarrassed situation white people face. After independence and the abolishment of Apartheid, the position of the black has been raised. Then, they begin to take revenge on white people whose ancestors were once the colonists and brought physical and mental harm to the black. Therefore, white men struggle to live in the South Africa because they lose the privileges. Some of them even face life threat. The author wants to warn the people to reflect the history through this story and think about the possible solution to solve this issue. The laws that abolished the Apartheid system didn’t eliminate the race discrimination between the white and the black. To end the war is to forgive and compromise.
