Abstract
Wordsworth, the western representative of natural poems, is considered by Shelley as a poet who sang the praises of nature. Tao Yuanming, as the Chinese spokesman, is the creator of pastoral poems. They lived in different ages, but they both loved nature and were the faithful followers of nature. However, because of the cultural diversities and personal reasons, when they stated the common subject in their poems, they also expressed their different attitudes towards nature. This thesis will discuss the similarities and differences between Wordsworth and Tao Yuanming in a more complete way through the analysis of their historical and living backgrounds, philosophical outlooks and poems by means of comparison and illustration, then to find out their outlooks of nature. For Wordsworth, nature as the symbol of god was full of divinity, so he was worshipful to nature. Conversely, Tao took himself as a part of the nature. What he pursued was a state of unity of heaven and mankind, so he was affinitive to nature.
