摘要

作为艾米莉•勃朗特一生唯一的一部小说，《呼啸山庄》在整个文学史上都享有着无上的荣誉。然而，在该部小说中，艾米莉对主人公希斯克利夫与凯瑟琳之间悲伤而又激情的爱的刻画以及小说中大量恐怖的哥特式风格的描写使得这部小说在当时褒贬不一，争论不休。然而，毋庸置疑的是这部小说的写作风格对其成为世界名著的影响着实突出，因此，本篇论文通过场景描写、人物刻画、死亡主题三个主要视角对小说的哥特式写作风格做了分析，揭示这一写作风格如何与小说内容结合构成小说独特魅力，使主题得以深化。同时通过小说的创作背景、作家的个人经历等方面分析了小说中哥特式风格形成的原因，帮助读者更好地理解小说主题。

Abstract

As the sole novel in Emily Bronte’s life, Wuthering Heights owns a great fame in literature. However, in this novel, Emily depicts a tragic love between two main characters Heathcliff and Catherine, and she also uses gothic writing styles to intensify the theme. Though this novel has been under dispute since its publication because of its horrible gothic style, it helps to form a better atmosphere in this novel and contributes to the great success of Wuthering Heights. Therefore, this paper is written to analyze the gothic writing style of this novel through three perspectives---description of settings, characterization and the theme of death, and to reveal how the gothic style helps form the unique charm of Wuthering Heights by combining with the novel contents and deepen the theme. At the same time, this paper also focuses on the reason of the usage of gothic styles by analyzing the writing background of this novel and personal experience of the author, and helps facilitate readers to have a better understanding of the theme.
