摘要

英语幽默是日常生活中的普遍现象，有着其独特的功能。本文以合作原则为视角，选取小说《百万英镑》中的话语为语料，通过分析对质量原则、数量原则、关系原则和方式原则的违反，来研究英语幽默的产生及其效果，以此帮助英语学习者提高对英语幽默的理解力和鉴赏力。

Abstract

English humor is a common phenomenon in our life, which has its special functions. Under the perspective of the Cooperative Principle, this thesis takes the words in The £1,000,000 Bank-Note as an example and analyzes the generation and effects of English humor based on the violation of maxim of quality, maxim of quantity, maxim of relation and maxim of manner to help English learners to improve their understanding and appreciation of English humor.
