摘要

  本论文运用意象理论分析勃朗特·夏洛蒂的作品《简·爱》。意象通常用于象征某些特殊的意念，意象代表着小说深层的主题，为小说添加艺术效果。在《简爱》这部小说中，“火”具有非常重要的寓意，它不仅代表着简与罗切斯特之间热烈的爱情，也代表海伦和里德太太微弱的生命气息；既象征着简和坦普尔小姐之间美好的友谊，也象征着伯莎·梅森强烈的仇恨。火是自然现象，“火”的这种意象的运用，使这部作品的内涵更加的丰富。

Abstract

This paper analyses Charlotte Bronte’s book Jane Eyre through the theory of image. Image is commonly used to symbolize certain ideas or concepts, and it is used to represent the underlying themes of the novel, or to provide the dramatic effect. In Jane Eyre, “fire” plays a very significant role, it does not only stands for the affection between Jane and Rochester, but also represents the faint breath of life; meanwhile, it still symbolizes the friendship between Jane and Miss Temple; also, fire predicts the revenge form Bertha Mason. Originally, fire is a phenomenon of nature, but Charlotte uses the writing style of image, makes the whole work full of variety.
