   《荆棘鸟》，出版于1977年,是澳大利亚当代作家考琳·麦卡洛的杰作。自首次出版以来，它就引起了很大的轰动,并且是公认的“澳大利亚的《飘》”，和十大现代经典作品之一。通过克利里家族三代人的爱情故事,麦卡洛的《荆棘鸟》揭示了这样一个事实：一切美好的事物，包括真爱，想要得到都是要付出沉重的代价和承受巨大的痛苦的。为了追求幸福,这三个女人走上了充满荆棘的爱情道路，而背后隐藏的是他们的内心世界。本文将主要讨论《荆棘鸟》中菲奥娜,梅吉和朱丝婷的经历，通过文本分析，来帮助读者更好地了解她们。

Abstract

   The Thorn Birds, published in 1977, is the masterpiece of the contemporary Australian writer Colleen McCullough. Since its first publication, it has caused great stir in the world, and is reputed as the “Gone with the Wind of Australia” , and one of the ten modern classics. Through the love story of three generations of the Cleary family, The Thorn Birds by McCullough reveals the fact that everything wonderful including true love comes at a heavy price and great pain. To pursue happiness, these three women get on the road of love, which is full of thorns. And the thing hiding behind is their inner world. This paper will focus on experience of Fiona, Meggie and Justine in The Thorn Birds for the purpose of helping the readers have a better understanding of them through textual analysis.
