摘要

威廉·萨默塞特·毛姆（1874-1965）是英国一位多产的作家，其作品包括戏剧，短篇小说，长篇小说，游记和散文等。他的许多作品在今天仍旧受读者青睐，如《人性的枷锁》、《月亮与六便士》、《面纱》、《寻欢作乐》、《刀锋》等。
历史上，毛姆及其作品的受到的评论褒贬不一，有来自评论家的批评，又有读者的拥护。 毋庸置疑，毛姆被普遍认为是二十世纪英国最受欢迎的作家之一。毛姆及其作品对英国乃至世界文坛的贡献是不可小视的。
本文将以《寻欢作乐》为研究对象，立足文本，在文学伦理学批评的视角下，结合毛姆的创作时代及其个人生活经历，试图通过对文本的具体分析来深入剖析罗西这一女性角色，从而帮助读者能够更好地理解毛姆的作品，并且能达到抛砖引玉的效果。

Abstract

William Somerset Maugham (1874-1965) was a productive writer in England, whose works involve dramas, short stories, novels, travel notes, essays and so on. Many of his works are still well received today, such as Of Human Bondage, The Moon and Sixpence, The Painted Veil, Cakes and Ale, The Razor’s Edge, to name a few.
In history, Maugham and his works received controversial comments, both criticism and praise. However, it is undeniable that Maugham was generally considered to be one of the most popular writers in English in the 20th century. He and his works, having contributed a lot to English literature circles, even to the world, are of great value to study.
Combining with Maugham’s creating times and his personal living experience, this paper will focus on a character named Rosie in Cakes and Ale from the perspective of ethical criticism, for the purpose of helping the readers to better understand Maugham’s works through textual analysis.
