Abstract

Katherine Mansfield is one of the most famous short story writers in the world and she was used to emphasizing the theme by describing an event or some characters. She seemed to immerse herself in the story to think and speak in the character’s tone. It seemed that Mansfield was not the teller of the story but the role in it.
This thesis stresses Mansfield’s three representative short stories: Bliss, A Dill Pickle, The Singing Lesson. Through a thorough analysis of the plot and these characters’ psychological changes, the awakening of their sense of identity and disillusionment will be discussed.
The thesis is divided into three parts. The first part gives a brief introduction of Mansfield’s life and main works. The second part is about literature review. The third part makes a detailed analysis of these three short stories on the basis of analysis on the use of irony, ambivalence analysis and plot arrangement to reveal the Mansfield’s subtle psychological development and provides the proof of the sense of disillusionment The last part summarizes the real of Mansfield’s theme-disillusionment.

摘要

  凯瑟琳.曼斯菲尔德是世界上最著名的短篇小说家之一，她习惯于通过描写一个细小的事件或是几个普通的人物来表达小说潜在的主题思想。她不是写作者，从某种程度上来说，她更是一个表演者，人物与她似乎融为了一体。她常常以人物本身的口吻来叙述和思考。
  我的论文涉及到曼斯菲尔德三个主要的代表作品：《幸福》、《莳萝泡菜》、《唱歌课》，通过一系列的情节分析和相关人物的心里变化描写，突出当时女性潜在的幻灭感和自我认识。
  本文大致分为三个部分。第一部分简要的介绍了曼斯菲尔德的生平和相关作品。第二部分是关于文献综述的。第三部分对于其三部短篇小说做了一个详尽地分析，主要是从细节描写，反讽的运用，矛盾心理分析以及情节设置三个方面来叙述的。最后，总结全文，表明个人观点。
