摘要：

托马斯.哈代是19世纪末英国伟大的现实主义小说家。他常常把人物的悲剧归结于命运，因此宿命论是他小说的特点。大多数文献资料研究的都是其作品中宿命论观点及其消极悲观的一面，但是小说中的主人公不相信宿命论，与命运作斗争，显示出哈代作品积极的一面。本文从人物性格和环境来分析宿命论在哈代小说中的体现，归纳总结出人物抗争的事例，进而分析小说中的人物在面对命运的不公时所体现出的抗争精神。同时，人物徒劳的抗争也更衬托出哈代宿命论的悲剧性。

Abstract:

Thomas Hardy is a realistic novelist in the 19th century in Britain.. Featured by fatalism, he always attributes characters’ tragedy to fate. As for fatalism in Thomas Hardy’s novels, most researches focus on fatalism in his novels and its negative effects. However, heroes and heroines in Thomas Hardy’s novels don’t believe in fatalism and fight against their fate, showing some positive factors. This paper makes an analysis about the fatalism embodied in Thomas Hardy’s major novels in light of characters and surroundings, and summarizes character’s rebellion against fate. It will further analyse character’s spirit of rebellion when they are faced with misfortune. Meanwhile, characters’ futile fight brings out the tragedy of Thomas Hardy’s fatalism.
