Abstract
This dissertation starts with the analysis of the function of fan in Oscar Wilde’s drama —— Lady Windermere’s Fan. Through analyzing the social and cultural background of the fan, this paper endeavors to study its structural function and reflection of characters’ mental activities. Meanwhile, recognizing the times Wilde lived in, this article will also further analyze the British Women’s Suffrage Campaign in the 19th Century, explore the real attitude of Wilde towards this movement and also focus on the way the author expressing his opinions in this play. We can thus easily find that Wilde actually holds a critic attitude to this campaign and shows his negative view in Lady Windermere’s Fan.

本文就扇子这一意象,对其在奥斯卡•王尔德的戏剧《少奶奶的扇子》中所起的作用进行解读,结合扇子的社会与文化背景挖掘出该物件在剧中所起的结构作用以及对剧中人物心理活动的映照。同时,结合王尔德所处的时代背景,深入分析19世纪英国妇女选举权运动,探索王尔德对此运动的真实态度并研究作者如何在剧中表明自身观点。最终,不难发现通过扇子这一物件王尔德对于该运动所传达的批判,调侃和一定程度上的否定意味。

Oscar Wilde’s works are known for fabulous words, unique themes and obvious opinions, but his dramas gain him the best fame, each of which owns great popularity. Lady Windermere’s Fan, one of Wilde’s representative works, is called by himself “the masterpiece of modern salon with pink lampshade” (Gu Bijun, 2005: 27).
Studies of Wilde’s comedies have fruitful results. According to relevant materials these days, we can roughly divide overseas studies over one hundred years into three stages: the first stage was from 1892 to 1899, when comments on Wilde’s comedies were in all kinds of British newspapers and magazines, reflecting views of contemporaries; the second period was from 1900 to 1969, with characteristics of emphasizing content and the compare research; the year 1970 till now is the following stage and people have started to pay attention to macro study as well as to exploit new literary critics.
