Abstract
This paper intends to probe into the ecological ethics in Heart of Darkness on the theory of ecocentrism. Firstly, it particularizes the descriptions of nature in the work and shows the mightiness of nature; secondly, it analyses the hint of anti-anthropocentrism in the work and reveals the error of anthropocentrism; thirdly, it goes into the settlers’ excessive desire for treasure, their strife and cruel actions towards Africans, reflecting economic determinism is unacceptable and different human species should love and respect each other. The paper therefore illustrates ecological elements in the work and concludes that nature is powerful, those who want to conquer nature would fail and be punished, human and nature should live in a harmonious community.

文章用生态中心主义分析《黑暗的心》, 旨在说明作品中的生态伦理价值观。首先，列举作品中对于环境的正面描述，说明自然的强大。接着，分析作品中反对人类中心主义的暗示，说明人类中心主义的谬误。最后通过分析文中殖民者对金钱的过度崇拜以及相互倾轧、残害同类，说明经济决定论是错误的，人类应当和谐共存。通过以上分析，文章阐明了作品中的生态中心思想，说明自然面前人类的渺小，征服自然者终将被自然征服，人类与自然应该和谐生活在一个大家庭中。

Introduction
Heart of Darkness has received extensive attention since its publication, not only because of its author，the well-known Polish-born English writer Joseph Conrad, but also its abundant characters, writing styles and vague theme. Conrad’s life period just witnesses the pollution in the Great Britain going on from bad to worse. And this is the age of the western powers expand aggressively outside (Yan Zhaoxia,2008:19-20 )．The present paper tends to penetrate into the work on the basis of Leopold’s ecological ideas and seek the ecocentrism ideology in it.

The novel mainly talks about the experience of an English captain Marlow in Congo, who has dreamt to go to Africa. Once he sets foot for Congo, vile weather and harsh local conditions foils his original intension. When he meets Kurtz, the ambitious settler who degenerates into a greedy colonist, the work reaches high tide. Conrad criticizes colonialism and conveys the idea that human beings are insignificant against nature. Not only the complex leitmotivs, the distinguished writing skills Conrad uses in this work are also studied by many scholars.
