Abstract
This paper presents a comprehensive analysis, according to Hegel’s tragedy theory mentioned in Aesthetics, of William Faulkner’s aesthetic thought in his literary works, And this comprehensive analysis is made through three aspects, i.e. the character traits of tragic figures shaped by Faulkner, the tragic conflicts constructed by Faulkner and the tragic endings in Faulkner’s novels. As there is limited research on aesthetic thought in William Faulkner’s works, this study carves out a new way on the study of aesthetic thought in William Faulkner’s works.

本文结合黑格尔在《美学》一书中关于悲剧的阐述，对威廉福克纳小说中的悲剧美学思想进行全面的分析。本文将从威廉福克纳所塑造的悲剧人物的性格特征、作品中所架构的悲剧冲突和悲剧作品中悲剧人物及悲剧性结局等方面对福克纳作品中的背景美学思想进行分析。由于目前对威廉福克纳作品中所体现的美学思想的研究仍很有限，文本为研究威廉福克纳作品中的美学思想提供了新的视角。

1. Introduction
William Faulkner’s literary works represent the highest achievement in the development of the South Novels in American history. And recently, many of the scholars have started to go into the research of Faulkner’s novels from an aesthetic perspective. Given such fact, this paper endeavors to conduct a comprehensive analysis of William Faulkner’s aesthetic thought embodied in his literary works with reference to Hegel’s elaboration on tragedy.

1.1    Previous Study of Aesthetic Thought in Faulkner’s Works
Aesthetics is not the common phenomenon in human minds. As a matter of fact, it is a product of western history (Ling Jiyao, 2004:1).
