摘要

简.奥斯丁的代表作《傲慢与偏见》通过对三段失败婚姻的反讽，揭示了缺乏爱与相互理解的婚姻不能长久。该小说以幽默滑稽的语言著称。这种喜剧特征主要是通过反讽的大量运用来强调的。本文从反讽的角度对小说中的婚姻，人物对话和人物性格三方面进行解读。论文以格莱斯的合作原则和立奇的礼貌原则为指导，着重对人物对话进行反讽分析，揭示出语言的生动幽默性。对人物性格的反讽描写的探讨，来体会小说如何使人物栩栩如生，给人印象深刻。本文的每一处指出的反讽，旨在让读者感受小说的生动有趣。

Abstract

Austin describes three failed marriages to ironically reflect that marriage without love can’t last long in her master piece titled pride and prejudice. The novel is well known for its humorous and hilarious language. This kind of comic feature is chiefly highlighted by the large use of irony. This paper analyzes the irony used in three aspects about marriage, conversation and characters. Irony in the conversations is analyzed under the guidance of cooperative principle (Grice) and politeness principle (leech). Taste the vivid and impressive characters through discussing how ironic description is used on characters. Each of the irony this paper referred to will give the readers a sense of vividness and fun.

1. Introduction
Marriage has been a everlasting theme of literally works. In order to better understand the theme of the novel, readers should first try their best to fully understand the irony used in the novel which makes the novel full of fun.
For a long time, critics have been exploring marriage irony in Austin’s novels. Her works are characterized by vivid and irony language style. With the development of economy and technology, the modern youth’s life style has been influenced. Marriage is a hot issue of the society. So far, the research on this theme by scholars is also quite a lot. However, articles aren’t much on the angle of irony. Irony is the use of something other than and especially the opposite of the literal meaning.
As one of the realistic novelists, Jane Austin observes social relationships in the limited society of her neighborhood and closely studied them with irony and humor. She bitterly reveals the essence of capitalist marriage. This article selects Jane Austin’s master piece titled pride and prejudice to analyze, because irony is the most obvious feature of the novel. How ironies are used in different characters and in those witty dialogues are under discussion. Some ironies in conversations violate cooperation principle and politeness principle.So one part in this article intends to discuss different conversations between these characters.
