摘要

摘要：《简爱》之所以成为世界文学中的一部经典作品是与夏洛蒂勃朗特采用哥特式手法分不开的。它成功地塑造了英国文学史中第一个对爱情、生活、社会以及宗教都采取了独立自主的积极进取态度和敢于斗争、敢于争取自由平等地位的女性形象。这篇论文主要以分析哥特式风格在简爱中的诠释为中心点，首先介绍哥特式小说，让大家了解什么是哥特式风格，以及哥特式风格的起源，特点。简单介绍简爱的主要人物形象，描写简爱的主要人物故事情节。然后，再从人物、环境、爱情这三个方面去分析哥特式元素在简爱中的体现。

Abstract

The reason why Jane Eyre became one of the classic in the world literature was inseparable with the adoption of Gothic technique by Charlotte. It succeeded in shaping a female image which is independent and has positive attitude and dares to fight for freedom and equal status. This paper mainly analyzed the Gothic style in Jane Eyre as a center, first it introduced the Gothic novel, let everyone know what is Gothic style and the origin and features of it. Second it presented the main character of Jane Eyre and described the main story plot in Jane Eyre. At last it analyzed the reflection of Gothic elements in Jane Eyre from the aspects of characters, environment.

1. Introduction
Jane Eyre is a masterpiece of the Victorian era in British literature. The Victorian era is also called the age of realism. Compared with the romantic period, it has inherited many advantages and increased a lot of uniqueness. In this period, Victoria, as the only ruler, ruled England for 63 years. Just because of her long reign in this period, British literature did inevitably have the characteristics of purity. The frequent appearance of female literature and the characteristics of Gothic novel became more and more obvious on the basis of the strong criticism of the reality. Jane Eyre was emerged in such a historical condition. Gothic novels became popular in the middle of the 18th century in England. It belongs to the branch of the romantic literature-“Dark Romanticism”. In addition to affecting the romantic poetry, it also produced the important influence to the Bronte sisters and other novelist in the 19th century. In their short and sad life, they created the most distinctive features color novel in Victorian age. In Jane Eyre, the story happened in ancient and isolated place like Lowood and Thronfield. The complex family history and life of Jane and Rochester, the secret in the attic, these typical Gothic elements rendered the atmosphere of mystery and terror, and made the love between Jane and Rochester full of magic charm.
