文化翻译观下中文电影字幕的英译研究-以《卧虎藏龙》为例_英语论文

A Study on C-E Film Subtitle Translation from the Perspective of Cultural Translation Theory――A Case Study of the Movie Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

摘要

电影是中外文化交流的重要组成部分。近年来，随着中国电影出口数量的增加，电影的英文字幕有了更多受众，影响日趋广泛。

20世纪80年代以来，文化翻译观成为翻译研究的热门。人们不再把翻译看作是静止的、纯语言的行为，而是把它看作在特定的社会文化背景下的交流过程。1990年，英国翻译理论家苏珊·巴斯内特正式提出了翻译的文化转向这一命题。

本文以苏珊·巴斯内特的文化翻译观为研究视角，分析电影《卧虎藏龙》字幕翻译中的文化因素以及所采用的翻译策略和方法。通过此项研究，希望能够帮助译者灵活采用翻译策略并实现中国电影文化内涵的有效传播。

Abstract

Film is an important part of cultural exchange between China and foreign countries. In recent years, with the increase in number of Chinese film exports, the film’s English subtitles have a wider audience and its impacts are growing wider and wider.

Since 1980s, cultural translation theory has become a research hotspot. People no longer regard translation as a behavior of motionless and pure language, but as a communication process in the context of a specific social and cultural context. In 1990, British translation theorist Susan Bassnett formally proposed “Cultural Turn in Translation Study” this proposition.

From the perspective of Susan Bassnett’s Cultural Translation Theory, this paper analyzes cultural factors in film subtitle translation based on the movie “Crouching tiger, Hidden dragon” as well as strategies and methods used in film subtitle translation. By doing this study, we want to help translators adopt flexible translation strategies and achieve effective dissemination of culture connotation in Chinese film.
