杨宪益与霍克斯对《红楼梦》中俗语英译的对比_英语论文

A Contrastive Study of David Hawks’ and Yang Xianyi’ s C-E Translation of Folk Adages in Hongloumeng

摘要

《红楼梦》，它是中国具有丰富民族文化内涵的古典文学巨著，并被大家认为是中国小说的里程碑、巅峰之作，有着接近60种译本。在这些译本其中，最优秀的就是杨宪益夫妇和英国翻译学家大卫·霍克斯的译本。《红楼梦》中充斥着大量的俗语，成语，歇后语等在内的习语，它们都具有浓厚民族文化的特色。因此，习语翻译受到的广泛关注度也日趋升高。而本文只探讨俗语英译的对比，就是经过对比杨宪益和霍克斯版本中俗语的英译，来向读者更加清楚的阐述它是怎么样达到功能对等这个理论的。

Abstract

Hongloumeng, a masterpiece of classical literature, which is rich in national characteristics, has been translated into nearly 60 versions. Among them, Yang Xianyi’s and Hawkes’ versions are considered to be the best two in the world. Hongloumeng used a large number of folk adages which have strong ethnic cultural characteristics including proverbs, idioms. So, more and more attention has been paid to the translation of folk adages. In this thesis, we will further elaborated how to achieve functional equivalence through the comparison of the English translation of folk adages.
