A Comparative Analysis of Two Chinese Translations of Emma

摘要

在翻译领域，很多出色的外国文学作品都有不同的中文译本。《爱玛》作为简·奥斯汀最成功的作品之一，更是被国内多位译者译成中文版本。

译者的翻译思想、翻译理论以及翻译策略对译本的语言风格起着至关重要的作用。本文旨在通过对张经浩、孙致礼二人的《爱玛》中译本的比较，研究二人的翻译思想如何在译本中体现。

本文首先对相关研究成果进行了回顾；其次对张经浩和孙致礼二人的翻译思想进行研究；然后从不同角度，根据译本中的例子，详细分析二人的思想在译本中如何体现。

张经浩认为翻译是一种艺术，没有理论可以指导，所以他大量采用了意译的翻译方法。而孙致礼认为翻译是艺术和科学的结合，所以他采用了“异化为主，归化为辅”的策略。两人的版本各有千秋，都对我国文学翻译领域有着很大的贡献。

Abstract

Many excellent foreign literary works have various Chinese versions. As one of the most successful novels by Jane Austen, Emma has been translated by many Chinese translators. 

Translators’ views, translation theories and strategies play great roles in deciding the styles of translations. Based on the comparative study on Zhang Jinghao’s and Sun Zhili’s Chinese translations of Emma, this thesis aims at studying how their views are reflected in translation.

This paper firstly reviews the related research achievements. Secondly, it does research on Zhang’s and Sun’s views towards translation. Thirdly, it analyzes from different aspects how their views are reflected in specific translation of this novel.

Zhang holds the view that translation is an art which cannot be directed by fixed theories so he uses free translation. Sun thinks that translation is the combination of art and science so he adopts the strategy of “foreignization first and domestication second”. These two versions have their own merits and they both make great contributions to literary translation in China.
