An Analysis of the Role of Witches in Macbeth

摘要

莎士比亚四大悲剧之一《麦克白》中丰富多彩的人物形象，给读者留下了深刻印象。其中女巫这一形象尤其引人关注，女巫及其预言贯穿全剧始终，渲染了阴森、恐怖的悲剧气氛，昭示了麦克白的悲剧命运。从舞台演出效果来看，这些女巫起到了调节戏剧紧张气氛的作用，也包含着喜剧和娱乐因素。但随着剧情的发展，我们发现，女巫对于全剧的情节发展、对故事氛围的渲染、对整体剧本的引领，以及对剧目结构的设计都起到了至关重要的作用。本论文重点讨论了剧中女巫在场景设置、情节安排、戏剧结构、人物性格、戏剧主题等方面的影响，阐释了这一形象与作品的有机结合。

Abstract

Macbeth is one of the Shakespeare’s four tragedies, and the rich and colorful characters impress readers deeply. In particular, the image of the witch is of great concern. The three witches and their prophecies run through the play, rendering the tragic atmosphere of the tragedy, and finally showing the tragic fate of Macbeth. From the effect of stage, three witches play a role of regulating tension of the drama with comedy and entertainment factors. But with the development of the play, we find that the three witches play an important role in the atmosphere, the whole play and the design of the structure. This thesis mainly discusses the role of the witches in the scene, plot arrangement, drama structure, personality of the characters, theme and so on, and illustrates the combination of this image and the work.
