浅析名词化隐喻在科技英语中的语篇功能_英语论文

On Discourse Function of Nominalization Metaphor in EST 

摘要

科技英语作为现代英语的一种特殊文体，表达客观、描述准确、抽象度较高，大量名词化结构的使用是词汇语法层面上最显著的特点。名词化隐喻是产生语法隐喻的重要来源，是科技英语语篇的重要文体特征之一。名词化隐喻在语篇建构中具有多种功能，它能使语篇正式、客观、简洁、精确、衔接连贯。本文以韩礼德的系统功能语法为理论基础，通过分析一些包含名词化结构的典型科技英语例句，对科技英语中的名词化隐喻及其语篇功能进行探讨，以帮助读者更好地把握科技英语的文体特征，加深对科技语篇深层语义的理解，为翻译科技英语文本打下良好基础。

Abstract

As a special style of modern English, English for science and technology（EST） is highly abstract with objective expression and accurate description. Besides, the frequent use of nominalization is the most notable feature of EST on the lexical and syntax level. Nominalization metaphor is an important source of grammatical metaphor and one of the important stylistic features of EST texts. Nominalization metaphor has a variety of functions in the construction of discourse. This paper is based on Halliday’s systemic-functional grammar theory, by analyzing the typical sentences of EST including the nominalization structures, to discuss the nominalization metaphor and its discourse functions of EST to help readers better understand the stylistic features of EST, and the deeper meaning of EST text, building a good foundation for translating EST text.
