摘要

《芒果街上的小屋》是当代墨西哥裔美国作家桑德拉·希斯内罗丝的杰作，它讲述居住在拉美贫民社区芒果街上的女孩埃斯佩朗莎的成长故事及同个社区里其他女性们的故事。这不仅是一本记录成长经历的少女日记，也是一部献给移民的——特别是那些处于边缘地位的拉丁裔女性的赞美诗。小说中的女孩婚前生活在“父权制度”之下，婚后生活受到“男权制度”的不平等关系的压制，她们的生活内容经常由周围的男性所决定。借鉴他者理论，本文试图通过比较少数族群与主流白人的种族差异、少数族裔女性与主流白人女性的差异，分析其所遭受的多重性别歧视，探讨少数族裔女性所面临的困惑，并进一步讨论了其对于她们独特的身份的追寻。美国少数族裔女性的女性主义的觉醒，源于主流女性主义批评，但其独特的文化与种族语境又使它游离主流女性主义批评，具有自身的特色。笔者希冀借此文唤起人们对少数族裔女性的关注，使其摆脱多重歧视和多重压抑的历史格局, 由边缘走向中心。

Abstract

Mexican-American contemporary writer Sandra Cisneros’s masterpiece The House on Mango Street depicts the stories of the growth of a girl-Esperanza and of the women who live in the mango street of the poor Latin community in America, which is not only a diary of a teenage girl but also a eulogy writing for the immigrants, especially for those Hispanic females in a marginal position. The girls live under the patriarchal system before marriage, and the marriage life is suppressed by the unequal relation of “patriarchy”. Thus their lives are often determined by the men around. Drawing upon the theory of “The Other”, this paper attempts to probe into confusions faced by ethnic minority women by means of comparing racial differences between ethnic minorities and mainstream white people, differences between ethnic minority women and mainstream white women and analyzing the sexual discrimination from ethnic minority men. Moreover, this paper further discusses how ethnic minority women search for a unique identity. This paper focuses on American minority women’s awakening by means of “The other” theory, which is originated from the mainstream feminist criticism. But its unique racial and cultural context make it free of mainstream feminist criticism. It is hoped that this paper can arouse people’s attention to the minority women, so that they can get rid of the historical pattern of multiple discrimination and multiple repression, and move from the edge to the center.
