An Interpretation of The Great Gatsby From Eco-critical Perspective

摘要

弗朗西斯·司各特·菲茨杰拉德是美国二十世纪初著名小说家，被誉为爵士时代的代言人。小说《了不起的盖茨比》是其代表作。海内外对其的相关研究不可胜数。近年来, 随着科技的发展, 人类对自然资源的开采日益加剧，这导致了生态环境的日益恶化。因此，以生态批评的视角来解读《了不起的盖茨比》以及弗朗西斯·司各特·菲茨杰拉德的生态意识就显得尤为重要。所以本论文从生态批评理论视角来解读《了不起的盖茨比》，旨在从三方面对其进行分析：自然生态、社会生态和精神生态，从而进一步探讨人与自然、人与社会以及人与自身的关系。通过生态批评视角的分析，人们将进一步体会到和谐重要性。

Abstract

Known as the spokesman of the Jazz Age, Francis Scott Fitzgerald is one of the most famous American novelists in the early 20th century. It is generally acknowledged that The Great Gatsby is his representative work. Numerous  scholars home and abroad have done a great deal of research on the novel. Over the past few years, human's exploitation of natural resources is increasingly growing with the technological development, which has contributed to worsening ecological problems. Therefore, it is of crucial significance to approach The Great Gatsby and interpret Francis Scott Fitzgerald's ecological consciousness. Thus this thesis interprets the novel from the perspective of eco-criticism. The thesis interprets it from three aspects：natural ecology, social ecology and spiritual ecology, which further explores the relationship between man and nature, man and society and man and himself. Through the analysis, people will further realize the significance of harmony.
