Abstract
With the development of the era, sitcoms have become a very important part of the public entertainment culture, as well as an important way to acquire knowledge. Many foreign sitcoms have become popular in our country, which have a great influence on many audiences. Therefore, the importance of subtitle translation is self-evident. Subtitle translation should focus on the source culture, translation process and strategy. The subtitle is a special kind of film and television text and the transmission of translation effect is often restricted by many factors. When dealing with the subtitle of sitcoms, the translation of humor has become a tough problem that translators need to deal with. Although research on subtitle translation has increased, there is little research on humorous subtitle translation. Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the hit TV show the big bang theory, is worth researching. In this paper, We analyze the dialogue based on Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory. We intend to explore some feasible translation strategies in the humor translation of sitcoms, and explore how to use Functional Equivalence Theory to maximize the humor of sitcom to Chinese audiences.
