A Study of Art Literature Translation from the Perspective of Newmark’s Translation Theory: Taking Oil Paintings of Western Modern Art as an Example_英语论文

摘要

随着国际交往日益密切，中西方艺术领域交流频率加快，想要更好地学习不同国家的艺术，学者必须要处理好英汉两语的互译。然而，我国目前对艺术文献翻译尚不成熟，艺术相关的翻译研究甚少，存在着忽视翻译策略和技巧，术语翻译不准确等等严峻的问题。因此，本文将在纽马克翻译理论指导下对西方现代主义时期具有代表性的油画类作品文献及其译文进行研究。表达型文本以语义翻译为主，要求以源语为根据，尽可能再现原文的语境，既要忠实于原作者的思想感情，也要忠实于原作的语言风格；信息型文本和号召型文本通常以交际翻译为主，使译文读者阅读译作后与原作读者产生相同的阅读效果和阅读体验，向目标语接近使译文符合读者的阅读习惯。本文将从词汇和句法层面分析语义翻译，从词汇，句法和语篇层面分析交际翻译。笔者进一步指出一篇艺术文献中可能即使用语义翻译也使用交际翻译。译者应对文本进行透彻分析，使用相应的翻译方法，翻译策略和翻译技巧以选择最佳译本。

Abstract

With the increasing international connection, the frequency of art exchange between the West and China has been accelerated. To better learn the art of different nations, one must deal well with translating English to Chinese and Chinese to English. However, immaturity of art literature translation and lack of art literature translation research in our nation bring about such serious problems as neglecting translation strategies and skills, making inaccurate translation of terms, etc. By studying typical oil paintings literature and its translation text, this thesis makes an analysis of aesthetic cases from the perspective of Newmark’s translation theory. Newmark suggests that semantic translation is mainly for expressive text, which is based on source language and reproduces its context as much as possible, keeping faithful to the author’s thought and to the language style of original text while communicative translation is mainly for informative text and vocative text, which is supposed to help target language readers get experience from reading as source language readers do and meanwhile to approach source language for keeping in line with the reading environment of source text readers. The thesis will discuss semantic translation on lexical, syntactic level and communicative translation in lexical, syntactic and textual level. The author further concludes that both can be applied to one art literature translation. Analyzing the text, the translator ought to make proper translation of high quality with translation methods, strategies and skills.
