A Study on English-Chinese Subtitle Translation from the Perspective of Adaptation Theory — Based on Gossip Girl Season Six_英语论文

摘要

在全球化不断加快的发展步伐下，影视作品作为现代社会当中重要的大众传媒媒介之一，促进了不同文化之间的交流和传播。然而，由于字幕翻译这项工作在国内起步较晚，尚未有系统的理论指导，近年来许多学者都是从目的论和功能对等理论研究其字幕翻译，而从顺应论角度研究的甚少，并把重点放在了语境方面。本文选取第六季《绯闻女孩》的英译中字幕翻译为例，运用Jef Verschueren的顺应论，从结构层面的顺应和交际文本层面的顺应角度，探讨如何从不同的角度实现顺应。经过详细分析，本文得出了研究结论：顺应论对实现高质量的字幕翻译具有指导意义，在其理论指导下，翻译者应在源语言和目标语的转换中，实现多个层次方面的动态顺应，表现在词汇、语言风格和文化等方面。这一结论将对未来的字幕翻译研究具有贡献意义，进一步促进字幕翻译研究的发展。

Abstract

Under the background of rapidly developing globalization, film and television works have contributed to a better understanding of different cultures, as one of the most important means of mass media in our modern world. However, the lack of systematical theory impedes the development of subtitle translation. Many scholars analyzed it from the perspective of Skopos theory and functional equivalence theory, while few scholars did the research from the adaptation theory. By analyzing the English-Chinese subtitle translation of Gossip Girl (Season Six) on a basis of Jef Verschueren’s adaptation theory, this thesis explores the realization of dynamic adaptation from the aspects of structure adaptation and communicative context adaptation. Then after the analysis, a conclusion is drawn: adaptation theory is helpful and essential in the accomplishment of subtitle translation of high quality. Under its guidance, translators are supposed to achieve dynamic adaptation at various levels in the transformation between two different languages, which involves language style and culture. This paper will contribute to the further study on subtitle translation and foster the development.
