摘要
随着中国的快速发展,对中国文化感兴趣的外国人数量日益增多。作为中国文化的瑰宝,汉语古诗能够帮助外国人深入了解中国文化,因此汉语古诗的对外翻译有助于传播中国文化。不过,当前汉语古诗的英译质量参差不齐,而提高翻译质量的关键在于能否再现古诗的艺术价值及使外国读者满意。前期研究从多个角度探讨了汉语古诗的英译,其中许渊冲的“三美论”因其注重古诗的对仗与韵律而忽视古诗所要表达的情感而颇具争议。为了探讨“三美论”指导下的汉语古诗英译能否再现其艺术价值及使英语母语者更好地理解和鉴赏作品,本文分别对两组汉语古诗的两个汉英译本进行了对比研究,这两组分别是浪漫主义代表作《望庐山瀑布》(许渊冲的译本及王守义与约翰·诺弗尔的合译本)及现实主义代表作《茅屋为秋风所破歌》(许渊冲的译本及宇文所安的译本)。同时,本文也调查分析了51位英语母语者对不同译本的喜好。研究发现:“三美论”指导下的许渊冲译本在源语的意、形及音的传达上优于另一个译本,也更受英语母语者喜欢。所以,“三美论”在浪漫主流派和现实主义流派的汉语古诗英译过程中具有重要的指导意义。
