On English-Chinese Translation Strategies of Perfume Names from the Perspective of Memetics_英语论文

摘要

在大量的进口香水涌入中国市场的背景下,香水名对一款香水的成功销售会有着至关重要的影响,它的翻译在很大程度上决定这香水是否能被消费者接受,是否能取得令人满意的经济效益。

国外香水涌入中国市场,其香水名必须译成中文,这一过程便是模因复制和传播的过程。本文将从模因论基因型和表现型的角度出发研究英文香水名的翻译与模因论的关系。本文旨在通过研究引起译者对英文香水名翻译的重视,为未来香水名的汉译提供新的研究视角。本文经研究发现可以用模因论的基因型或表现型的特点来解释香水名的翻译。

Abstract

Against the background of a large number of imported perfumes entering the Chinese market, perfume names will have a crucial impact on the successful sales of a perfume. Therefore, the translation of perfume names largely determines whether the perfume can be accepted by consumers, and whether it can achieve satisfactory economic benefits.

When foreign perfume enters Chinese market, their product names must be translated into Chinese. And therefore the process of replication and dissemination of memes is involved. This paper will focus on the translation of English perfume names from the perspective of memetics and find out the relationship between memetics and translation of English perfume names. This paper is aimed at arousing the translator’s attention to the translation of English perfume names, providing a new perspective for the translation of perfume names, and finding the guiding function of memetics theory in the translation of perfume names in the future. During the research, it is found that memetics genotype or phenotype can be used in explaining the translation of perfume names.
