An Analysis of Chinese Loanwords in Oxford Dictionary from the Perspective of Lexicography_英语论文

摘要

截止至2018年,约有250个中国借词选入牛津英语词典。本论文主要讨论1938-2018，即改革开放前后40年中牛津英语词典的中国借词。本论文将这些单词按照时间顺序排序,然后将这些单词分为政治类、贸易类、文化类三个方面，然后按照牛津英语词典的编纂原则分为三类，即广泛性原则、稳定性原则和交际性原则。本论文先通过横向分析各个时期中国借词的种类，然后时间上的垂直分析不同时期中国借词种类的变化。通过两个维度的分析,本论文发现中国的发展水平对中国借词的形成和传播有较大的影响。另外,通过加入中国借词,牛津英语词典可以丰富英语词汇并促进英语的传播。

Abstract

Up to 2018, about 250 Chinese loanwords had been selected into the Oxford English Dictionary. This thesis mainly discusses the Chinese loanwords in the Oxford English Dictionary from 1938 to 2018, that is, the 40 years before and after the reform and opening up. Firstly, these words are sorted in chronological order, then they are classified into three categories: political, trade and cultural. Then they are classified into three categories according to the compilation principles of the Oxford English Dictionary, the principle of universality, the principle of stability, the principle of communicativeness. This thesis first makes a horizontal analysis of the types of Chinese loanwords in different periods, then makes a vertical analysis of the changes of the types of Chinese loanwords in different periods. Through the analysis of two dimensions, this thesis finds that the development of China has a great influence on the formation and spread of Chinese loanwords. In addition, by adding Chinese loanwords, the Oxford English Dictionary can enrich and expand the English vocabulary and promote the spread of English.
