Subtitle Translation of The Great Gatsby from the Perspective of Functional Equivalence Theory_英语论文
摘要
随着全球化趋势和改革开放的不断推进和发展,英语电影在中国越来越受欢迎。电影字幕作为中国观众理解英语电影的工具,发挥着重要的作用。本文依据奈达的功能对等理论,从信息对等、含义对等、风格对等三个方面对电影《了不起的盖茨比》(2013年版)的字幕翻译进行了分析,旨在探究功能对等理论在字幕翻译中的指导作用,提升英语电影字幕翻译的质量,使中国观众能够更好地理解英语电影。本研究表明,功能对等理论给译者一个全新的视角,能有效指导电影字幕翻译。

Abstract
English films gain great popularity in China with the constant advancement of globalization and the reform and opening-up policy. Film subtitle, as a way for Chinese audience to understand the English films, plays a significant role. Based on Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory, this thesis makes an analysis of the Chinese subtitle of The Great Gatsby (shown in 2013) against the English subtitle from three aspects: the equivalence of information, the equivalence of meaning and the equivalence of style, aiming to explore the guiding role of the Functional Equivalence Theory so as to improve the quality of subtitle translation to help Chinese audience appreciate English films better. The thesis concludes that the Functional Equivalence Theory can offer a new perspective for translators and guide the practice of subtitle translation effectively.
