A Metaphorical Study of Buck in The Call of the Wild_英语论文

Abstract
The Call of the Wild is a classic work of American realist writer Jack London. The author tells a story of a dog named Buck from a pampered pet dog to a sled dog, obeying the call from heart back to wilderness. This novel continued the theme of London’s survival novel: life is always struggling to survive in the process of obtaining meaning and strength. Starting from the metaphor, this thesis tries to interpret the call of the wild through the metaphorical meaning of Buck in the three stages, so as to interpret the novel from a new prospect.
This thesis will analyze the metaphorical meaning of Buck’s three experiences to reflect Jack London’s idea: in a world full of brutal competition, people should adapt to the environment, tenacious survival, and listen to the call from the heart to find freedom and liberation.
