摘要

本文以美国最受欢迎的情景喜剧《老友记》为研究对象, 尝试从新的视角解读美式幽默。我们根据背景笑声，把《老友记》剧本中的幽默言语抽取出来，分析其语言特质,并且将文中幽默进行大致分类，努力从修辞手段、习语运用以及背景笑声的设置等方面探讨其表现幽默的方法和翻译策略。本文研究所得结论虽仅限于《老友记》，但从中我们不难窥见英语幽默言语行为的表达特征及幽默翻译的技巧，对理解和翻译其他作品中的幽默会有一定的借鉴意义。
