从功能对等理论视角浅析张培基《英译中国现代散文选》

A Brief Analysis on Zhang Peiji's Selected Modern Chinese Prose Writing from the Perspective of the Functional Equivalence Theory

摘要

本文运用奈达提出的功能对等理论分别从意义、风格、文化三方面系统研究张培基先生的四册《英译中国现代散文选》。功能对等理论作为奈达翻译理论的核心，与张培基的翻译技巧有着密切的联系。在意义方面，本文将从意义展现的准确与充分性层面分析译文是否表达原文意义；在风格方面，将从语言生动性与修辞层面分析译文是否再现原文风格；在文化方面，从文化专有词和习语层面分析译文是否为译入语读者所接受。通过研究分析表明，张培基的译文已经在最大程度上达到了功能对等，能够在译入语读者中激发与原文读者较为相似的感受，从而体现出功能对等理论对我国散文翻译实践的重要指导意义和价值。希望本文对中国现代散文翻译及功能对等理论研究有一定参考价值。

Abstract

This paper gives a systematic research on Selected Modern Chinese Prose Writings of Zhang Peiji from the perspective of meaning, style and culture on the basis of Nida’s functional equivalence. As the core of Nida’s translation theories, functional equivalence has a close connection with strategies adopted by Zhang Peiji. In terms of meaning, this paper analyzes whether Zhang’s translation produces the original meaning on the aspect of accuracy and adequacy of language. In terms of style, this paper explores whether Zhang’s translation presents the original style on the aspects of the vividness of language and rhetorical devices. In terms of culture, this paper discusses whether Zhang’s translation can be accepted by target language readers on the aspects of culture-specific items and idioms. According to the research, the conclusion can be drawn that Zhang Peiji’s Selected Modern Chinese Prose Writings have achieved the functional equivalence on the whole, and created a similar receptor’s response for the foreign readers. Meanwhile it reflects the importance and value of functional equivalence in the translation practice of essay. It is hoped that this paper will be helpful for the study on both the translation of Chinese essays and functional equivalence.
