莫言作品中的文化意象翻译与中国文化传播_英语论文

The Successful Translation of Cultural Images in Mo Yan’s Works and the Spreading of Chinese Culture

摘要

文化意象的翻译和传递是文化交流与传播的重要方式。语言与文化的密切关系决定了翻译与文化传播的密切关系。在全球化的文化背景下，文化意象的传递必然具有更重要的现实意义。文章从文化意象的起源和发展史入手, 解释何为文化意象。紧接着介绍莫言及其作品和葛浩文及其翻译观点，引出文化意象的对等和构建问题，以莫言作品英译本中有效的文化意象翻译为例，对葛浩文译文中的文化意象的翻译和构建作一些探讨，旨在为文化意象翻译者提供一些切实可行的翻译策略，进而讨论了文化意象的成功传译对中国文化传播的促进作用。

Abstract

Cultural image translation and transmission have been an important cultural communication and spreading instrument. The close relationship between language and culture determines that of translation and cultural communication. In the globalization context, the cultural image transmission is bound to embrace significantly realistic meaning. This paper begins from the introduction of the origin and development history of cultural images and then briefly reviews Mo Yan’s works and Howard Goldblatt’s translation views to discuss issues of cultural image construction and cultural image equivalence. To demonstrate these issues more convincingly, this paper exemplifies some acknowledged cultural image translations in the English versions of Mo Yan’s works and discusses cultural image translation and construction in Howard Goldblatt’s translation so as to provide translators with some practical cultural image translation strategies and discuss the contribution they have made to the Chinese culture spreading.
