摘要
如今,随着中国的快速发展,越来越多的外国人开始对中国和中国文化产生好奇心。因此,把中国文化翻译成英语或其他外语就成了一个大难题,特别是富含隐喻的中国的古诗词。本文将从概念隐喻的视角来探讨中国古诗词的翻译。对于隐喻的研究可以追溯到亚里士多德的时代,那时隐喻通常都被当作是一种修辞手段。但在1980出版的《我们赖以生存的隐喻》中,莱可夫和约翰逊首次提出隐喻不仅仅是一种修辞手段,而且还是一种思维方式,也就是说,他们认为隐喻是一种认知工具。基于他们对隐喻的研究,他们还提出了一个关于隐喻的新理论---概念隐喻理论,并将隐喻的研究推向了一个新纪元。本文将会从概念隐喻的视角对比《水调歌头》的三个译本,以此分析该理论在中国古代诗词翻译中的运用。

Abstract
At present, with the fast development of China, more and more foreigners are getting more curious about China and its culture. Hence, translating Chinese culture into English or other foreign languages becomes a big problem, especially for some special forms of Chinese culture such as Chinese classical poetry which is rich in metaphors. This thesis will examine the translation of Chinese classical poetry from the perspective of conceptual metaphor. The historical studies of metaphor can be traced back to the era of Aristotle, and generally speaking, metaphor is viewed as a rhetorical device. However, in Metaphors We Live By issued in 1980, Lakeoff and Johnson first claim that metaphor is not only a rhetorical device, but also a way of thinking. That is to say, they believe that metaphor is a cognitive tool. Based on their researches on metaphors, they put forward the conceptual metaphor theory that brought the study of metaphors into a new era. With the conceptual metaphor theory, this thesis will also make a comparison of three versions of a Chinese classical poetry---- Shui Diao Ge Tou to analyze the use of this theory in the translation of the Chinese classical poetry.
