摘要

菲茨杰拉德（1895-1940）是美国爵士时代著名的小说家。他的代表作《了不起的盖茨比》与《夜色温柔》通过两个走向灭亡的爱情故事，展示了那个时代人们的道德价值观以及对于爱情的理解。小说成功刻画了盖茨比、黛西、汤姆·布坎南、迪克、妮可、罗斯玛丽等一批典型的社会形象，暴露了上流社会的腐败和金钱对于人心的腐蚀作用。对于菲茨杰拉德的作品而言，抨击是为了救赎。他用文字构建起了一个浮华世界，却也让这个世界透着希望，让人们透过浮华能够触碰到光芒，警醒与思考。

本论文主要包括三大部分。第一章对弗·司各特·菲茨杰拉德生平以及《了不起的盖茨比》、《夜色温柔》这两部作品进行简要介绍，并提出研究方法与研究目标。第二章试图通过细读文本与情节，从人物价值观着手，分析盖茨比与黛西、迪克与妮可的爱情是如何一步一步走向万劫不复的，指出他们扭曲的观念与道德信仰，是导致其爱情失败的根本原因。最后，得出结论，揭示出这个“浮华世界”背后的“道德荒原”源自于财富与阶级对于人心的异化，衍生出了所处这一时代中无数小人物的悲剧命运。
