基于文化翻译观的《三字经》翻译策略研究_英语论文
On the Translation Strategies of the The Three Word Primer from the Perspective of Cultural Translation Theory

Abstract
The Three Word Primer is a cultural treasure of the Chinese nation as well as a classic primer for elementary education in ancient China. Susan Bassnett’s Cultural Translation Theory has pushed translation studies a step forward. This paper makes a comparative analysis of the two English versions of The Three Word Primer from the perspective of Susan Bassnett’s Cultural Translation Theory, and attempts to explore the application of the translation strategies—domestication and foreignization—in the two versions. By analyzing the translators’ translation backgrounds, their understanding of the original culture and their cultural believes, the research concludes that the cultural orientation has the function of restricting the translation strategies. Therefore, based on the different cultural orientations, translators could combine translation strategies of domestication and foreignization together in the translation of Chinese classics.
