变译论视角下看乡村文学俚语的英译_英语论文

Slang Translation in Countryside Literature from the Perspective of Variation Theory ---a Case Study of To Live

摘要

近年来，中国的乡村文学越来越受到大众的关注，代表中国特色和特殊文化的乡村文学也逐渐登上国际舞台。本文以著名乡村小说作家余华的小说《活着》中的俚语作为研究对象，运用黄忠廉教授提出的变译理论，对文中的俚语的翻译策略进行分析，将原作与白睿文的译作对比后得出以下结论：在翻译乡村文学的俚语时，一般情况下不能直接翻译，需要采取一定的翻译策略，而变译论中的翻译策略,包括增译、减译、编译、缩译、述译、并译和改译，能够很好的帮助译者进行翻译。《活着》英译本中大多数翻译在变译论翻译策略的帮助下能将原文特色保留，但仍存在一些丢失原文特色的情况，并且无法通过变译论翻译策略进行弥补。通过研究，希望译者在实践中能充分考虑各种影响因素，采取适当的翻译策略，并结合文化特征，中国的乡村文学才能被成功地翻译，中国特色的作品才能真正走上国际舞台，中国的本土文化才能真正为世界所接受。

Abstract

In recent years, the Chinese countryside literature is gaining an increasing concern by the public. The countryside literature which characterizes Chinese elements and special culture has been gradually exhibited in the international stage. This thesis, taking the novel To Live written by famous countryside writer Yu Hua as an example, makes analysis on the translation strategies of slang in it with the help of Translation Variation Theory, which is proposed by Professor. Huang Zhonglian. With the comparison between the English version and the original Chinese one, it is discovered that when we translate slang in Chinese countryside literature, usually, in most cases, it is impossible to directly translate it. Translation strategies are often used under this circumstance. And the seven translation strategies, addition, omission, editing, condension, exposition, combination and adaptation, in Variation Theory are able to help translators to accomplish translation equivalence. In the English version of To Live, most slang can be translated well with the help of seven translation strategies, keeping the original features, while there still exist English versions with inferior-quality. It is hoped that through the study, translators can take various related factors into consideration during the translation practice and make use of appropriate strategies to successfully translate countryside literature, integrating with cultural background, bringing the literature with Chinese characteristics to the international stage, enabling foreigners to better accept Chinese local culture.
