Pragmatic Functions of Verbal Humor in Weibo Discourse

摘要

言语幽默作为一种具有鲜明特色的话语形式，存在其特有的语用功能。目前人们对于言语幽默的研究比较多，但对于特殊语境中言语幽默的作用研究则比较少。微博作为一个新兴的网络交流平台，发展迅猛，产生了许多幽默语言。因此本文将选取微博这个特定语境，来分析幽默言语的特殊功能。研究发现，微博话语中的言语幽默主要具有五个功能：1）影响人们的反应速度和反应程度；2）构建和谐的交流氛围；3）展现用户良好的自身形象；4）增强人们的抗压能力；5）讽刺社会不良现象。本研究有助于彰显言语幽默在微博中的生命力和作用力，让更多微民意识到言语幽默对于微博的重要作用，倡导人们在微博中更多地使用幽默语言。

Abstract

Verbal humor, as a type of discourse with distinctive pragmatic features, obviously has its unique functions. There are too many researches on verbal humor, but few on the effect of verbal humor in Weibo. As a new kind of network communication platform, Weibo has prospered many humorous expressions in its development. This thesis has investigated the pragmatic functions of verbal humor in Weibo. The findings show the main pragmatic functions as follows: 1) influencing people’s reaction speed and degree; 2) harmonizing the communication environment; 3) representing a good image of users; 4) strengthening people’s resistance against pressure; 5) satirizing unhealthy tendencies in society. This study will highlight the vitality and the power of verbal humor in Weibo, help more netizens realize the significant impact of verbal humor on Weibo and encourage people to use more humorous language in Weibo.
