摘 要

电影是集艺术和商业于一体的艺术形式,是最具有影响力的媒体之一。随着中国对外开放进程的加快以及中外文化交流的发展,越来越多的英语电影正涌入中国大陆市场。作为英语译制片不可或缺的部分,中文译名建立起了一座把电影和观众初步联系在一起的桥梁。电影片名的翻译己成为翻译领域一个越来越重要的组成部分。一个好的译名能使电影锦上添花,在新片的推介过程中具有举足轻重的作用。遗憾的是,电影片名的翻译研究工作还做得远远不够,目前似乎还没有人提出一套比较完整可行的原则指导片名的翻译。本文将结合当今电影名称翻译的现状,尝试以信达雅准则为指导,通过实例分析归纳英文电影名的翻译策略(直译,意译和改译)对英文电影名翻译进行研究。同时,也提出了一些建议,比如为了达到更好的翻译效果,译者可以灵活使用不同的翻译方法。

Abstract

   Movie, an art form of artistic and commercial values, is one of the most influential mass media nowadays. With the speeding up of China’s opening to the outside world as well as the development of cultural communication between China and English-speaking countries, more and more English films are pouring into the Chinese mainland market. As an indispensable part of the translated English films, the translated film titles can build up a bridge over the initial connection between the film and the audience. Therefore, film title translation has become a more and more significant part of translation studies. An excellent version may contribute a lot of the charm of the film and plays an important part in the introduction of new films. However, film title translation is an area that is far from being explored and up till now no one has put forward a systematic and feasible principle to guide film title translation.
   The paper will proceed with current situation of the English movie titles, combining the principle of faithfulness, expressiveness and elegance, as well as analyzing the strategies used in English film title translation. Three strategies, namely, literal transliteration, free transliteration and creative transliteration, can be exemplified by a host of translated versions from different angles. Meanwhile, some advices are given that the translator can adopt different translation strategies flexibly in order to better achieve the goal of English film title translation.

1 Introduction
Nowadays, with the rapid development of science and technology, media-visual media, is playing a more and more important role in daily life, and become one of the fastest and the most convenient means of cross-cultural communication. Audio-visual cultural, especially film and television culture, has already been promoted as one of  the main form of culture in modern society. As an artistic form, film caters to the refined and popular tastes. They create vivid images, tell stories, express deep emotions and attract the audiences by the perfect combination of sound, color and moving pictures.
