Abstract：
Reduplicated words are a common language phenomenon in Chinese. Its usage is very popular in China, especially in classical Chinese poems and oral Chinese. The usage of reduplicated words is a typical artistic means to display the beauty of Chinese from the aspect of rhythms, forms and images. Reduplicated words highlight aesthetic values and make language expressive. It is also used to describe scenes in detail and express one’s diversiform emotions. Reduplication is a major rhetorical device for producing emphasis, clarity, amplification, and emotional effect, generating a kind of acoustics and ocular aesthetic feeling. However, because of the different ways of expression in Chinese and English, reduplicated words are difficult to be translated. Chinese reduplicated word is to some extent incommunicable in English．In order to keep its rhetoric effect of the source language, appropriate translation of reduplicated words is of great importance. Based on the analysis of the characteristics of both English and Chinese reduplicated words，this paper suggests some tentative ways to translate the reduplicated words in Chinese into English．Furthermore，combined with the basic skills and structure，this paper tries to explore how to translate them so as to keep the original work’s style, image and beauty perfectly．In this paper the author gives a brief introduction of reduplicated words in the first part. Then, the author analyzes the characteristics, usage, function and approaches employed in translation. At last, the author draws the conclusion that great effort should be made to reproduce the beauty of the sound, form and meaning of the original.

摘  要：
叠词是汉语中一种常见的语言现象，特别是诗歌和口语中。叠词韵律紧凑，集中表现了汉语的音美、形美和意美，在文中有很强的表现力和感染力。故在汉语中的使用频率很高,尤其是古典诗词中。叠词也是表达强调、夸张以及情感效果的重要工具，并产生视觉，听觉和感官的美感。汉语如此，英语亦然。但是由于中英文不同的表达方式，汉语中叠词很难有效的翻译成英语。从某种程度上说，汉语叠词在英译过程中有其不可译性。这就体现了翻译方法的重要性。本文以具体的例子为基础,强调了这样的指导思想:翻译时不但要尽可能地忠实于原作的内容,也要尽可能地忠实于原作的形式,如果语言条件不许可复制原作的形式,那么就要努力发挥译文语言的优势,寻找出在功能和效果上与原作最为贴近的表达方式。本文在分析汉英叠词特点的基础上，提出了几种汉语叠词英译的方法。结合翻译技巧和结构，本文试图深入探索能够完美的保持原作的风格，形象和美感的翻译方法。首先，作者会简要介绍汉语和英语叠词，接下来就叠词特点、应用、功能和翻译方法进行分析，最后，作者总结出我们应该尽最大努力使翻译保持原作的音美，形美和意美。

1 Introduction
Reduplication or reduplicated word, as a lexical phenomenon, prevalently exists in Chinese as well in English. For Chinese words have the same size and symmetry, the reduplication of Chinese can generate a kind of acoustics and ocular aesthetic feeling. In English, because English is alphabetic language , every word range in a line, short and long, it is impossible to have the same effect in ocular aesthetic feeling，but English also has its reduplicative words do the same as in Chinese.
