Abstract and Key Words

Abstract: Metaphor as one of the rhetorical devices plays a very important role in linguistic phenomenon, which permeates in people's daily lives and to be used in various literature stylistics. This paper attempts an analysis of metaphors in English economic news, and collects a large number examples and materials from The New York Times, The Washington Post, China Daily and the 21st Century. The aim is to make a clear definition of metaphor in English Economic News and identify its classifications, i.e. spatial metaphors, structural metaphors and ontological metaphor. This paper also provides a detailed study about the functions, which will help to deepen learners' understanding of the economic news stylistics. The paper holds that only by making detailed research on the metaphor in the economic news, can it be translated more accurately, objectively and vividly.

摘要：隐喻作为一种重要的修辞手段，在语言现象中扮演着重要的角色。作为一种特殊的语言现象，它普遍存在于人们的日常生活之中，应用于各种文体。本文通过对经济英语新闻这一文体中的隐喻进行分析，从The New York Times, The Washington Post，China Daily和21st Century等经济新闻语篇中搜集大量的例子，并通过对经济语篇中的隐喻的进行辨别，分类，阐释及其效果功能的分析，加深对经济新闻文体理解，从而使得经济新闻被翻译得更准确、客观、形象。

1. Introduction
Metaphor as a rhetorical device is a kind of linguistic phenomenon, which has long received great attention from many scholars. It works as a special linguistic phenomenon and a means of communication. With a rich cultural heritage, it exists in people's daily lives and to be used in various literature styles.
The study of metaphor in Economic English can be dated from a famous economist named Henderson, who began the discourse on the economy and found research interests in the usage of metaphors. The work Metaphor in Economics he published in the journal marked the opening of Economics Research in its field. Then, Deirdre McCloskey made a further study on metaphor in economic discourse and found the great importance of metaphor studies in economics. In Her monograph The Rhetoric of Economics, she mentioned that metaphor is commonly used in economic discourse, and it is one of the most important rhetoric devices in economics.
