Abstract and Key Words

Abstract: This paper aims to study the cultural image in the translation of Song Ci. It points out the urgency and significance of taking cultural image into consideration in English translation of Song Ci. Two translation strategies of translation are discussed and used in analyzing Song Ci to reveal the necessity of translating Ci from the cultural perspective. Then several pieces of Song Ci composed by Su Shi are taken as typical examples for appreciating the cultural image in translation. By conducting researches on Ci translation from the angle of cultural image, communications between different cultures are enhanced and contributions are made to the development of translation.

摘要：本文旨在赏析宋词英译中的文化意象。文中指出在翻译宋词过程中考虑文意象的紧迫性和必要性，并以苏轼的词作为典型例子，运用两大文化翻译策略对其进行赏析，从而得出文化意象在翻译宋词时起到的重要作用。通过文化意象的视角来研究宋词的英译，既加深了不同文化之间的交流，又推动了英译进程。

1. Introduction
As a glorious treasure in Chinese classical literature, Chinese classical poetry possesses a long history. Ci, a form of poetry, originates from Tang Dynasty and booms in Song Dynasty. In the history of Chinese literature, Song Ci plays a significant role, whose formation and development are closely related to music. Just as the saying “reciting poems and singing Ci” indicates, Ci has been created for people to sing. Poets show their inner feelings and thinking through these profound and concise words in their great works naturally and fluently. As a shining star in Chinese culture, Song Ci needs to be introduced to the world so as to enrich the reservoir of world literature. As a result, the translation of Song Ci is of great importance for introducing Ci to other cultures. From the cultural perspective of translation, translators can reveal the essence of these poems and give a more proper picture to readers who are not that familiar with Chinese culture. Meanwhile, different cultures can communicate and integrate with each other and make world literature blossom. The research on translating Ci from the perspective of cultural image is thus of great significance for both the original culture as well as the targeted culture. By attaching importance to cultural image while translating, a lot of misunderstanding will be avoided and translation can reach a higher realm. The appreciation of cultural image is not only good for translation field, but also serves as a channel to strengthen culture exchange and communication.
