Abstract

This thesis focuses on study of Yang Xianyi couple and the subjectivity he manifests in translating Selected Stories of Lu Hsun. Discusses the following questions： What is subjectivity of translator? What is Yang Xianyi subjectivity in Selected Stories of Lu Hsun and how Yang Xianyi embodies subjectivity in his translated works? Yang Xianyi subjectivity in Selected Stories of Lu Hsun is easy to see that it is related with his life experience and knowledge. This thesis focuses on the study of Yang’s translation in Anthology of Lu Hsun’s novels and discusses the identity of a translator with subjectivity during the translation process. In his translation in Selected Stories of Lu Hsun, he uses lots of translation skills and some good expressions can make the article looks more valuable. In translating Lu Hsun’s works, Yang has impressed us by perfect combination of his activeness and limitation, which rely on his own training and language skills.

本文以杨宪益其妻子和他在翻译《鲁迅小说选集》中的发挥的主体性为题，讨论了什么是译者主体性?什么是《鲁迅小说选集》中的译者主体性？杨宪益先生是怎样实现其主体性的等一系列的问题，通过讨论，本文章着重研究了杨氏夫妇的著名翻译作品之一的《鲁迅小说选集》的翻译。本文重点是研究译者杨宪益在翻译过程中所发挥的主体性表现。同时，探讨在鲁迅作品的翻译过程中，杨先生巧妙地发挥了自己的翻译技巧和方法和一些精妙的词汇、灵活的语言来表达了其中的语句。通过这些自身的素养和语言功底使得杨宪益在翻译鲁迅作品时达到了译者主动性和受动性相结合，相互适应的境界。从而给我们留下了深刻的印象。

1 Introduction
1.1 Significance of the Study
Scholars begin to study Chinese-English translation of classical books. In order to study the circular relationship between translation and translating value, Frank Kermode promotes a developmental ambiguity. He considers that the books we called classics obtain substantial characteristics of duration as well as opening for adjustment, which can make these texts last longer through the endless diversified treatments. The characteristic of opening for adjustment is a kind of ability to support diversified translations no matter how time changes: the classical text is complicated and uncertain. Therefore, it leaves enough room for recreation by many times. It can be seen that the Chinese-English translation of classical texts need classical and valuable translation and profound research in translation.
Translation is a historical and significant activity for communication through human civilization. In the process of transfer between Chinese and English, translators are undoubtedly the most active factor, as translation work involves the writer, translator and reader. As for reader and writer, translator is an intermediary person.
