Abstract

Chinese translation of English news enables the masses to get in touch with the outside world. However, ideology hidden in news is inevitable due to its special nature. This paper aims to analyze ideological nature and influences on news translation from the perspectives of source texts selection and translation strategies adopted and ends with the conclusion that translators should critically select source news texts and adopt some useful strategies like reconstruction of semantics, addition and deletion of contents and substitution of words to ensure that ideology manifested in translated versions accords with that of China.

摘 要

英语新闻汉译让中国大众接触到了更为广阔的世界，也不可避免地会涉及到意识形态的问题。本文旨在分析意识形态的本质及其对新闻翻译在原材料和翻译策略选择方面的影响，从而得出结论：译者应批判性地选择原新闻，并在翻译过程中运用语义重组、内容增添和词语替换策略，使译文能符合中国的意识形态。

1.    Introduction
A news report enjoys multiple channels of spreading, such as newspaper, radio, TV, Internet, etc. It speeds up international communication in world’s globalization. As a kind of social practice, news report is by no means objective. Its context always represents certain values or attitudes which belong to the category of ideology.
A news discourse represents ideologies. Meanwhile, a news discourse helps construct a certain ideology. Therefore, news reflects and effects people’s perception directly or indirectly, and plays an important part in the formation of people’s values and attitudes. News translation is an activity of the transformation of two different languages which represent two different cultures. In a sense, translation is a cross-culture communication which seems like a friendly talk on the basis of equality. However, this activity will undisputedly run into the problems resulting from ideological clash, because a news report of a certain country is based on the dominant ideologies of the society. An equal and friendly communication is actually a consequence of the compromise of ideological clash.
