Abstract:

Chinese coinage gradually becomes the research object of specialists and scholars. And the English translation of Chinese coinage is playing an increasingly crucial role in the course of prompting the enrichment and enhancement of language and cross-cultural communication. The paper mainly makes an analysis on English translation methods and skills of Chinese coinage. Based on research achievements acquired previously, this paper applies Peter Newmark’s translation theory- semantic translation and communicative translation to the analysis and exploration of English translation of Chinese coinages collected. The subject of this paper is how to promote the flexible and appropriate translation of Chinese coinages into English. In other words, the main content is about translating Chinese neologisms into accurate and idiomatic English and conveying Chinese culture connotation. The paper aims at identifying defects and problems in the translation practice and putting forward some suggestions and countermeasures to these relevant problems.

中文新词逐渐成为专家学者们的研究对象。在促进语言发展和跨文化交际方面中文新词的英译发挥着越来越重要的作用。本文对中文新词的英译方法和技巧作一个初步探究。基于前人的研究成果，本文运用彼得•纽马克的翻译理论-语义翻译和交际翻译来对收集到的新词进行分析和探讨。本文的主题是如何促进中文新词的灵活得体翻译。换句话说，主要内容即将中文新词译成准确地道的英文，并传达出中文的文化内涵。本文旨在发现在翻译过程中存在的不足并相应地提出一些建议或对策。

1. Introduction
With the rapid and all-round development of Chinese society, dramatic changes have taken place in our society and life. In the language field, these enormous changes are primarily reflected in vocabulary. More and more Chinese coinages spring up in our daily life, which has posed great challenges in the translation circle and exerted a tremendous influence on the development of our language. Coinage refers to new words or expressions that are or will be constantly created and those existing words or expressions that have been endowed with new meanings. Translation, with the purpose of promoting communication and understanding of different cultures, acts as an indispensable bridge between the source language and target language. There exist a number of challenges in the translation field, among which is the English translation of Chinese coinages, especially the English translation of Chinese culturally—loaded coinages.
