Abstract

As the theoretical basis of cognitive pragmatics, the relevance theory can well explain translation phenomenon. Translation is an ostensive-inferential process which interprets the source language. The purpose of translation is to make enough contextual effects among target language readers. It means that target language readers can find the optimal relevance between translation and cognitive environments. Tang poetry is the cultural treasure of china. With the development of globalization, the translation of tang poetry is very important to the spread of Chinese traditional culture.
This paper makes a research on the application of relevance theory to translation through the comparison and analysis of different versions of Chang Gan Xing, Chun Wang and Jin Se. Focusing on translator’s understanding of the original text, the thesis will try to find the optimal relevance between the original text and the translation.

摘  要

关联理论是认知语用学的理论基础，它对翻译现象有极强的解释力。翻译也是一个明示——推理过程，是对原语进行阐释的明示——推理过程。翻译的目的就是使译文在译文读者中产生足够的语境效果，即译文读者能找到译文与之认知环境间的最佳关联。唐诗是中国文化的瑰宝，在全球化发展的今天，唐诗英译对于中国传统文化的传播十分重要。本文从关联理论出发，对《长干行》、《春望》、《锦瑟》三首唐诗的不同译本进行对比分析，研究关联理论对翻译的指导性。通过对这三首唐诗的对比分析，研究诠释原文时译者对原文语境的理解，寻求原文与译文的最佳关联。
