Abstract

With the rapid development of economy, people pay more attention to the spiritual life at the base of increasing rich in material life. The movie became the best choice for people to enjoy leisure. Movies, just like a piece of mirror, reflect all respects of human society, including the material world and the spiritual world. With a larger number of English movies being introduced into China, more and more movie titles are translated into Chinese. A good movie title, with both artistic and commercial values, not only contributes to the success of box office, but also helps this movie win an everlasting fame. How to translate the English title into a proper Chinese one, this needs translators to get the understanding of the functions and features of English movie titles, to get a knowledge of translation principles and skills, and try their best to make the translated title beautiful, catchy, and attractive. Based on the research of functions and features of English movie titles, this paper with abundant examples has discussed some translation principles on the ground of translation skills. It firstly deals with the movie titles functions, followed by the discussion about the unique features of titles. Then, it analyzes the principles of English movie titles translation, which are supported by the skills used in actual English movie titles translation.

随着经济的发展，物质生活的丰富，人们越来越重视精神生活，于是，电影成为了人们休闲娱乐的最好选择。电影就如一面镜子，折射出人类社会的方方面面，包括物质的，也包含精神的。随着大量的英语电影引进中国，英语电影片名的翻译也引起了关注。一部好的电影给人以深刻的印象，好的电影片名更是让人记忆深刻，回味无穷。好的片名具有艺术欣赏和商业广告的双重价值，不仅提高电影票房，更会让电影历久弥新。如何给英语电影一个恰当的中文译名，就需要译者了解英语电影片名的功能和特点，按照翻译原则、方法进行有针对性的翻译，力求译名文字优雅，琅琅上口，极具吸引力。本文基于对英语电影片名功能和特点的研究，利用丰富的案例，通过翻译技巧作为支撑，重点介绍英语电影片名的翻译原则。本文首先介绍了电影片名的功能，然后讨论了英语电影片名一些明显的特点，最后部分重点分析电影片名在实践翻译过程所应用的翻译技巧以及相关的翻译原则。
